Works with the FreeStyle Libre 2 app to track your glucose anytime§, anywhereII

Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 2 system relies on wearable sensors. The sensors maintain a high level of accuracy over 14 days. When scanned by a reader or compatible smart device,§ these sensors can provide updates on a user’s glucose levels. That means the system can typically serve as a convenient substitute for fingerstick testing; however, “traditional” glucose tests are still necessary in some situations.

If you have diabetes, you know how inconvenient and painful fingerstick testing can be. But with the FreeStyle Libre 2 system, diabetes patients can get glucose readings by simply scanning a wearable sensor.* The result: a highly reliable†† look at your glucose levels, delivered in a fraction of the time a fingerstick test would take.

The FreeStyle Libre 2 system’s sensors are designed specifically for use in this system. That means you cannot use these sensors with the FreeStyle Libre 14 day System or the FreeStyle Libre 3 system. Conversely, sensors from the older or newer systems are not compatible with the FreeStyle Libre 2 system.

Failure to use FreeStyle Libre 2 or FreeStyle Libre 3 systems as instructed in labeling may result in missing a severe low or high glucose event and/or making a treatment decision, resulting in injury. If glucose alarms and readings do not match symptoms or expectations, use a fingerstick value from a blood glucose meter for treatment decisions. Seek medical attention when appropriate or contact Abbott at 855-632-8658 or FreeStyleLibre.us for safety info.

Q: How Long Does The FreeStyle Libre 2 Sensor Last?

A: The sensors currently used in the FreeStyle Libre 2 system have a 14-day lifespan. However, modified sensors for the FreeStyle Libre 2 and 3 systems are expected to increase this wear time to 15 days. These sensors have been cleared by the FDA and should receive a full rollout later this year.

Q: Can You Reuse Libre Sensor If It Falls Off?

A: The sensors used in the FreeStyle Libre 2 system are designed for one use each. If a sensor falls off, you should dispose of that sensor and replace it immediately. Otherwise, you may not get glucose readings and could run the risk of infection.

Q: How Do I Stop My Libre Sensor From Coming Off?

A: To keep your sensor firmly in place, try to avoid catching it on clothes or hazards such as door frames and furniture. Along with that, make a point of not touching the sensor while you wear it and patting it dry after you bathe or swim. If your sensor shows signs of lifting, you can use a medical-grade adhesive, tape, or bandage for additional adhesion.

Q: Can You Go Through a Metal Detector With the FreeStyle Libre 2?

A: Yes, you can wear your FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor while going through a metal detector. However, these sensors should not be exposed to full-body scanners that use millimeter radio waves or X-rays.

Q: Can You Use Your Cell Phone With Libre 2?

A: If you have a compatible iPhone or Android,§ you can scan your sensor with your phone by downloading the FreeStyle Libre 2 app.

Q: How Often Does FreeStyle Libre 2 Take Readings?

A: The sensors used in the FreeStyle Libre 2 system measure glucose levels once per minute.

Q: Can a user still scan the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor and get the last 8 hours of data after the sensor has ended after 14 days?

A: The user is provided with one last opportunity to scan the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor after the 14 days have ended. The reader will acquire any data remaining on the sensor that was obtained prior to the end of the 14 day wear period.

Q: Where Can I Put the FreeStyle Libre 2 On My Body?

A: FreeStyle Libre 2 system users are advised to apply their sensors to the back of the upper arm.

Q: Can users bathe, shower, swim or exercise while wearing a FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor?

A: Yes, the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor is water resistant and will continue working as long as it is not submerged more than 3 feet or kept underwater longer than 30 minutes at a time.

*Fingersticks are required if your glucose alarms and readings do not match symptoms or when you see Check Blood Glucose symbol during the first 12 hours.
